Soap fans were thrilled to see Angela Lonsdale appear on Emmerdale earlier this month. The 58-year-old actress has joined the ITV soap as DS Reid, the police officer handling Charity Dingle's case after she reported evil Dr Todd for sexual assault in hard-hitting scenes.
From Coronation Street to Emmerdale
Coronation Street viewers instantly recognized Angela from her role as police officer Emma on the cobbles from 2000 to 2003, where she was paired with iconic character Curly Watts. Since leaving Corrie, Angela has appeared in Holby City, Doctors, This Is England '90, Our Girl, The Syndicate, and Hollyoaks, among others.
EastEnders Ex-Husband
Angela was married to EastEnders legend Perry Fenwick, who has played Billy Mitchell on the BBC One soap since 1998. They reportedly met at a soap industry event and wed in 2005 after Perry proposed by spelling out a message with pebbles on a beach. The couple had three children together: Lucy, Isabella, and Jayden. However, they separated after five years of marriage. A spokesperson said at the time: "Perry Fenwick and Angela Lonsdale have sadly separated after five years of marriage. They will not be making any further comment."
'Real Accent' Surprises Fans
With her recent Emmerdale role, Angela shared a video on Instagram welcoming her new followers. Born in Cumberland, she wrote: "hello and welcome to all me new followers ! #deeplygratefulforitall." Fans were shocked to hear her Geordie accent in the clip. One commented: "Wow I never knew you were a geordie! Love your accent & you're doing an amazing job on emmerdale! Xxx" Another replied: "I thought Angela was from Cumbria. Maybe picked up on the accent if she lives there x." Others added: "Never had you down as a Geordie. Can canny!" and "Not used to hearing you with a Geordie accent!"
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
