Emmerdale viewers are bracing themselves as April Windsor prepares to give evidence in the high-stakes murder trial of Ray Walters, with Bear Wolf in the dock. April (portrayed by Amelia Flanagan) was groomed by the villainous Ray (Joe Absolom) into drug dealing, with the predator also attempting to coerce the teenager into sex work.
Following her horrific ordeal of forced labour on Ray's farm, it was Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) who ended the monster's life, while Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) and Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) helped cover up the killing. In upcoming episodes, April will take the witness stand to demonstrate that Bear was a victim of Ray's modern slavery operation rather than an accomplice, while he must also establish that Ray's death was self-defense.
Paddy and April's partner, Dylan, face their own trial for perverting the course of justice. April has endured numerous harrowing storylines since first appearing in the village in 2014, most notably the devastating loss of her mother Donna (Verity Rushworth).
Off-Screen Dynasty
Off-screen, actress Amelia Flanagan comes from a dynasty of soap royalty. Amelia is the elder sibling of Coronation Street duo Isabella and William Flanagan. Isabella portrays Hope Stape, daughter of Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) in Weatherfield, while William plays Hope's on-screen cousin Joseph Brown, Chesney's (Sam Aston) son. The gifted siblings are regularly commended for their performances in the soaps.
At the 2022 Inside Soap Awards, Amelia and Isabella found themselves in direct competition, both vying for the Best Young Performer accolade, with Isabella ultimately taking home the prize. Speaking about having siblings who also star in soaps, Isabella revealed to Inside Soap at the ceremony: "There are so many debates at home whenever there are awards ceremonies. Me and my brother are team Corrie and my sister is obviously team Emmerdale, so it does get a bit heated sometimes!"
Amelia's True Age
With April now at the heart of the compelling Ray Walters murder trial storyline on the ITV soap, viewers have been questioning Amelia's real age. April is currently 16 years old in the show, having been born on 13th August 2009. As for Amelia herself, she's presently 17 and will turn 18 on June 6, 2026.
When Amelia turned 17 last year, fans were taken aback, with one writing: "Aw thought she was younger, happy birthday chick." Another added: "I thought that too, a talented performer for sure!" Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX.
