Emmerdale: New Sugden Arrival Serena Played by Casey Al-Shaqsy

Emmerdale has announced the arrival of a new member of the Sugden clan, marking an exciting new chapter for the iconic family in the ITV soap. As the show looks to strengthen the dynasty's presence in the village, Serena will arrive on screen later this month, played by Casey Al-Shaqsy, who began filming in April.

Serena's Dramatic Arrival

According to Emmerdale, Serena will find herself at the heart of the drama when she is drawn into the aftermath of a character's traumatic situation. She becomes conflicted about what she has become involved in, and soon her presence raises questions about her true motivations for settling in the Dales and where her loyalties ultimately lie.

Producer's Enthusiasm

Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, said of the new arrival: "The Sugdens are a core part of the Emmerdale fabric, and we are thrilled to welcome Casey to the family. Her character will be at the heart of some extremely gripping and unexpected storylines, forcing her to make difficult choices that will have dramatic consequences for some of the village's biggest names."

Casey Al-Shaqsy's Background

Casey is best known for her roles in Once on This Island (Concert-Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Hamilton (UK Tour), Wicked (UK Tour), Six: The Musical (UK Tour), Bonnie & Clyde (Concert-Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Prince of Egypt (Dominion Theatre), and Rumi: The Musical (London Coliseum). She shared her excitement about joining the show, commenting in a statement: "I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining such an iconic show and playing a Sugden! Serena is a fantastic character with so much going on beneath the surface. I can’t wait for the audience to see the drama unfold."

Building the Sugden Legacy

The Sugdens have been part of Emmerdale history since 1989. After actor Ryan Hawley reprised his role as Robert Sugden last year in a shock return for fans, arriving just in time for Aaron Dingle's wedding to John Sugden, producers are continuing to build up the legendary clan once again.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and STV, or from 7am on ITVX, STV Player, and YouTube.
