Emmerdale Fans Stunned as Corrie Star Appears as Police Officer

Emmerdale fans were left open-mouthed on Monday evening as they instantly recognised the police officer supporting Charity Dingle. The character, DS Reid, was revealed to be played by actress Angela Lonsdale, a familiar face from ITV's Coronation Street.

The Shocking Storyline

In recent episodes, Dr Todd uncovered the truth about baby Leyla's parentage. Charity had acted as a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden and Sarah's husband Jacob Gallagher. However, Charity had kept a devastating secret: Leyla is not biologically Sarah and Jacob's child. Instead, the baby's real parents are Charity and Ross Barton, following a brief affair.

Charity fought desperately to keep this secret, but Dr Todd, who has been making Jacob's life miserable at the hospital, discovered the truth and has been blackmailing her. He demanded £100,000 from the Woolpack co-owner, leaving Charity desperate. In Sunday's episode, Dr Todd sexually assaulted Charity, a deeply sinister turn of events.

Charity's Struggle

Monday's episode showed the devastating aftermath as Charity struggled to process the assault. She attempted to join her family at the pub for Sarah's 21st birthday party but fled, visibly shaken. Later, she found the strength to report Dr Todd to the police, speaking to DS Reid at the station.

Sharp-eyed fans quickly recognised DS Reid as Angela Lonsdale, 58, who played police officer Emma on Coronation Street from 2000 to 2003, paired with the beloved character Curly Watts. Since leaving Corrie, Lonsdale has appeared in Holby City, Doctors, This Is England '90, Our Girl, The Syndicate, and Hollyoaks.

Fan Reactions

Viewers took to social media to express their surprise. One wrote: "Good to see Emma Watts is still on the force. #Emmerdale #Corriedale." Another said: "Wow, Emma Watts got promoted! One for the #Corrie long time watchers #Emmerdale." A third commented: "The police officer talking to charity is curly watts wife Emma also play police women in corrie." A fellow fan responded: "I did recognise her face. I dont watch Corrie, but think she has been in lots."

In the coming weeks, Charity faces a harrowing struggle to come to terms with the attack, torn between opening up to her loved ones or keeping her ordeal buried.

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX. If you've been a victim of sexual assault, help is available at www.rapecrisis.org.uk or by calling 0808 802 9999.
