Eleanor Tomlinson, known for her role in Poldark, appeared on Tuesday's episode of ITV's This Morning and opened up about life as a new mother while balancing her work commitments. The actress is currently starring in a gripping new drama for Channel 5 titled The Fortune.
A Glimpse into Motherhood
Tomlinson, who married rugby player Will Owen in 2022 and announced her pregnancy in October 2024, welcomed their first child on Valentine's Day last year. She shared the news on social media with a photo of her baby's hand clasped in hers and her husband's. During the interview, she told hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley: "Being a mum is the best thing to ever happen to me, it's incredible." She added humorously: "I'm chasing around, projectile vomit, it's a joy… no, it's great, I'm running around like a headless chicken and moving everything up and cupboard locks and the works, it's a treat."
Supportive Network
When asked how she manages motherhood alongside her acting career, Tomlinson praised the production team behind The Fortune. "I'm so lucky, I've got such a supportive network, particularly on this job. The production company were so amazing about helping a woman go back to work after having a baby, and I couldn't sing their praises highly enough," she said. She also credited her family for their support, noting that her husband, baby, and grandparents all helped out during filming. "It takes a village, it's crazy, but I feel very lucky to have that network."
Hair Truth Revealed
Elsewhere in the interview, Tomlinson addressed her appearance, revealing that her hair is not naturally red. "I'm naturally a blonde!" she exclaimed, explaining that she chose to portray her Poldark character Demelza as a redhead. During the series, she wore a wig, with only a few strands of her natural hair visible. "When people see me, they think I've got this massive hair tied up, but really, it's just post-partum tufts!" she joked. Cat Deeley quipped back: "I feel completely bamboozled."
Upcoming Projects
Tomlinson is also set to star in an exciting upcoming drama in Leeds alongside Harry Potter actor Matthew Lewis. This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX, while The Fortune is currently airing on Channel 5.
