EastEnders legend Rita Simons has married her 'best friend' Ben Harlow in a stunning ceremony in Ibiza. The actress, best known for playing Roxy Mitchell, shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, revealing that the couple tied the knot the day before.
The wedding took place at Hidden River Barn in Carlisle, with family and friends in attendance. Rita's 18-year-old twin daughters, Jaimee and Maiya, served as bridesmaids. The bride was walked down the aisle by Blue singer Duncan James, a close friend of many years.
Rita and Ben met while working together on Legally Blonde the Musical in 2017 and became a couple in 2020. They announced their engagement earlier this year. In a touching moment after the ceremony, Rita performed a song with Duncan James.
Sharing a video from the day, Rita wrote: 'Well this happened yesterday! I married my best friend @benjyharlow. I can't even put into words how special our day was.' She thanked guests for travelling from around the world and praised the band, The Rockets Collective.
Fellow soap stars congratulated the couple, including Rita's on-screen sister Samantha Womack, who said: 'And for your sister's soppy wedding speech!!!!!! xxxxxx love you.' Other well-wishers included Ellie Dadd, Ricky Norwood, Anna Passey, Glynis Barber, and Cheryl Fergison.
