Eamonn Holmes Walks Out on Mariah Carey After Four-Hour Delay and Nap

Veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, renowned for his forthright interview style, has disclosed a sensational incident where he stormed out of a scheduled chat with global singing superstar Mariah Carey. The confrontation occurred after Carey arrived a staggering four hours late and promptly decided to take a nap rather than commence the interview.

Speaking at an Audience With event at London's Hippodrome Casino, hosted by Hayley Palmer, Holmes recounted the tale from his decades-long television career. He explained that the interview was slated for 11 am, but Carey failed to appear. Her team repeatedly assured him she would arrive soon, but by 3 pm, there was still no sign of the diva.

"What the Hell Is Going On Here?"

Eamonn Holmes, who had been awake since 4 am that day, grew increasingly frustrated. "I'm going, 'what the hell's going on here,' so I said 'right if she's not here in the next 10 minutes I'm going,'" he recounted. Carey eventually arrived four hours late, immediately lying down on a chaise-longue and closing her eyes.

When Holmes inquired about the situation, her team informed him that "Ms Carey is very tired, she's been up from nine o'clock this morning." Unimpressed, Holmes retorted, "she's been up from nine o'clock I've been up from four!" In a bold move, he then walked over and lay down beside her on the sofa.

Fury and the Final Walkout

This act sparked outrage from Carey's entourage. Holmes responded by stating, "Ms Carey's tired, I've been up earlier than she has, I'm tired too, so we're both going to lie down here." He proposed that the interview proceed with both either lying down or sitting up. When her team insisted Carey would not sit up, Holmes declared, "well Mr Holmes certainly won't be doing the interview," and promptly left.

The 66-year-old GB News star admitted he might not handle the situation the same way today, acknowledging he startled Carey awake. This revelation comes amid reports that Holmes has been instructed to take time off from his GB News show due to concerns about his on-screen conduct.

Holmes's Ongoing Health Struggles

In recent years, Eamonn Holmes has faced significant health challenges. In 2021, he dislocated his pelvis and sustained three slipped disks. During his recovery from surgery, he suffered a further setback by falling at his former marital home, breaking his shoulder.

Emotionally discussing his condition on the Session 7 podcast, Holmes revealed, "I'm sick. I'm in a wheelchair. That's been horrendous to deal with for two years." He requires carers throughout the day to assist with basic tasks, noting, "I have to have carers now looking after me. Somebody dresses me in the morning, somebody undresses me at night, somebody gets my food for me." He described this period as "the toughest stage of my life ever."

Ruth Langsford's Therapeutic Journey Post-Split

Meanwhile, Holmes's ex-wife, Ruth Langsford, has shared that she sought counselling following their separation in May 2024 after 14 years of marriage. Speaking to Rylan Clark on BBC Radio 2, Langsford stated, "I've had counselling and it's the best thing I ever did."

She emphasized the value of a counsellor's objective perspective, saying, "With your friends they're always on your side really... A counsellor is very different, they look at the bigger picture." Langsford highlighted a pivotal piece of advice from her therapist: "Find your light," which helped her channel feelings of anger and sadness positively during a dark time.

This incident with Mariah Carey underscores Eamonn Holmes's no-nonsense approach, even as he navigates personal health battles and life changes post-divorce.
