Eamonn Holmes has revealed that he stormed out of an interview with Mariah Carey after the singer arrived hours late and immediately lay down for a nap. The broadcaster recounted the incident during an Audience With event at London’s Hippodrome Casino.
Holmes explained that the interview was scheduled for 11am, but Carey did not appear until much later. He said: 'Bearing in mind I’ve been up from four o’clock that particular day so I’m going, “what the hell’s going on here” so I said “right if she’s not here in the next 10 minutes I’m going.” So she comes through the door, and she immediately lies down on the chaise-longue, and closes her eyes.'
When told that Carey was 'very tired', Holmes responded: 'She’s been up from f***ing nine o’clock I’ve been up from four!' He then lay down beside her and offered a compromise: either both sit up or both lie down. When her team refused to have her sit up, Holmes walked out.
Holmes described the singer as 'a complete pain in the a**' and said he has interviewed her multiple times with similar difficulties. He also discussed his former feud with GMTV co-host Anthea Turner, noting they are now best friends.
During the event, Holmes criticised modern television, saying: 'I see people on television and have no talent whatsoever. It is a great pity. If you can't justify the audience then it's over. ITV will be the next one down the tubes.'
