Comedian Dave 'Hughesy' Hughes caused a stir at the Logie Awards in Melbourne on Sunday night with his opening monologue, which took aim at the reality show The Biggest Loser and its trainer Shannan Ponton. The show was recently moved to a daytime slot after poor ratings.
Hughes quipped, 'The Biggest Loser didn't work out this year, did it, Shannon?' as the camera focused on Ponton in the audience. He added, 'You can still catch it at 2 o'clock in the afternoon,' referencing the show's new time slot. Ponton took the jibes in good humour, smiling and sipping a beer.
The comedian also criticised the show for featuring thinner contestants this season, with one contestant entering at just 78kg. Hughes remarked, 'It is a great show, but they had thin people on. That wasn't going to work out.' He joked, 'I weigh 88kg. How can I enjoy my nachos watching that?'
Hughes continued, 'Opening night of the bloody Biggest Loser, I wanted them to be craned out of their houses. I want the first weigh-in to be down on the Hume Highway at a truck weighbridge!' Other targets included Grant Hackett, Channel Seven's Tim Worner, and Dr Chris Brown.
