Fans were unimpressed with Dave Grohl as he appeared at the MTV VMAs with his wife on Sunday night. The Foo Fighters frontman's two-decades-long marriage was nearly shattered in September 2024 after it was revealed he had fathered a love child during a secret affair with another woman.
However, the couple attempted to present a united front at Los Angeles' Peacock Theatre after wife Jordyn Blum, 50, decided to stand by him following his 70 weeks in therapy. Dave, 57, was all smiles in a black leather jacket and trousers, while Jordyn wore a coordinating black spaghetti strap gown with a bubble skirt.
Video raises eyebrows
Yet a video of the couple uploaded to social media raised eyebrows, particularly when Dave pointed at the cameras and told Jordyn to smile before walking off as she trailed behind him. One unimpressed social media user commented: "Treating her like a fan asking for a selfie." While another wrote pointedly: "Oh this clip is worth a million words."
A third raged: "She's stunning! Way to walk ahead of your wife and not beside her. Tsk tsk." Another agreed: "I can't believe he's walking ahead of her?!" One fumed: "Love how he instructed her to look at the camera. Very controlling and then walks ahead of her."
Backdrop of infidelity confession
Back in September 2024, Dave posted a confession on social media, revealing that he had fathered a fourth child through an affair. Posting on Instagram, he said: "I've recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We're grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together. Dave."
The musician turned off comments on his post, with his daughters reacting by deleting their Instagram accounts. Violet later reinstated her account and broke her silence with a selfie of her in a black bra, two necklaces, and opted for a striking red lipstick. "You can pull off every hair colour, but there is just something about black," she wrote along the post.
Reconciliation reports
It was reported at the time that Jordyn knew about Dave's infidelity but wasn't aware of the extent of it. Speaking to The New York Post, the source added: "She's a nice, wonderful woman." While an insider told In Touch magazine that Dave's announcement was an attempt to take responsibility for his actions. "He feared the mother or someone else would spill the news. It's his way to own up that he's made mistakes," they said.
Jordyn reportedly wanted a divorce but couldn't bring herself to split the family up. Last September however, Jordyn was said to have made a decision on the fate of their marriage, with a source saying that she had forgiven him. "She's forgiven him. They never wanted a divorce though — the idea of splitting up their family was too sad for both of them," the source told People magazine. "They love their girls and they're both great parents."
They added that while Jordyn was "initially distraught" over the betrayal, Dave "begged" for her forgiveness and they're now "very happy". Last year, it was revealed that Jennifer Young is the mother of Dave's lovechild - who was born in August 2024.
