Dakota Johnson turned heads on the red carpet at the UK premiere of Verity in London, wearing a sheer beige lace dress that revealed black lingerie by designer Fleur de Mal. The 36-year-old actress was joined by co-star Josh Hartnett at the screening held at the Curzon Mayfair, while Anne Hathaway, who is heavily pregnant with her third child, missed the event.
Red Carpet Glamour
Johnson paired the striking frock with simple gold jewellery and wore her long dark hair loose over her shoulders. Hartnett walked the carpet with his wife Tamsin Egerton.
The film is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover's best-selling novel. Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired to finish a book series by Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway, who has been left incapacitated by a car crash. Lowen moves into the author's home and develops romantic feelings for her husband Jeremy, played by Hartnett, but uncovers a hidden manuscript that reveals shocking secrets about Verity's past.
Cast and Crew Reactions
Johnson described the film to Reuters: “It's so thrilling, it's so sexy. You are constantly trying to figure out what the truth is and who the good people are and who the bad people are. It's kind of a lot like life.”
Hathaway had previously told E! News about differences fans of the book might notice. “The house might not look exactly the way in your head when you read the book. For a lot of people, Verity is a blonde,” she explained. “So, you just kind of hope that people will go with your version of it and let it be its own thing.” She added, “It was so wonderful to have the first wave of audiences see it and have them tell us that they loved what we did. They thought that we got the spirit of the book correct and that's been a real relief.”
Hartnett Praises Co-Stars
Hartnett praised his co-stars during an appearance on This Morning, telling Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary: “I mean, these are two of the best actors working in Hollywood right now. And the movie kind of resides on their faces, in my opinion, the way that they interact, I think, is just beautiful to watch.”
The actor, who lives on a farm in Hampshire with Egerton and their four children, added that it takes a strong script to lure him to Hollywood these days. “My life is my family life and every once in a while I come out and do something like this,” he explained, “which is such an anomaly for me.”
Verity is the fourth of Hoover's novels to reach the big screen, following It Ends With Us (2024), Regretting You (2025), and Reminders Of Him (2026). The film will be in UK cinemas on October 2.
