Former Manchester City footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter has died suddenly aged 32. Bury Football Club, one of a number of clubs he played for, confirmed his death in a statement issued on social media on Tuesday.
Career and clubs
Meppen-Walter, a father who lived in Heywood, was a former England under-18 international. He also played for Carlisle United and Stockport, and later featured for non-league clubs across the region.
No details surrounding his death have been revealed.
Tribute from Bury FC
In a statement, Bury FC said: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Courtney Meppen-Walter, at the age of 32. The thoughts and condolences of everyone at Bury FC are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."
Previous conviction
Meppen-Walter was sentenced in February 2013 for killing a brother and sister in a car crash. Then aged 18, he was jailed for 16 months after a silver Mercedes Elegance CDI car he was "showboating in" ploughed into a red Nissan Micra while travelling nearly twice the 30mph speed limit in Cheetham Hill.
The impact killed Kulwant Singh, 32, who was driving the Micra, and his 37-year-old sister Ravel Kaur, a front seat passenger, both from Salford.
