Coronation Street Hit with 72 Complaints Over Acid Attack Episode

Coronation Street has received 72 official complaints to Ofcom following Monday night's episode (March 27) which depicted a harrowing acid attack. The scenes showed stalker Justin Rutherford throwing acid at bride-to-be Daisy Midgeley, only for Ryan Connor to intervene and suffer severe burns.

The broadcast watchdog confirmed the complaints, which cited the graphic nature of the attack. Viewers took to social media to express their distress, with some calling the episode 'too much' and comparing it to a 'horror movie'. Others praised the soap for highlighting a real-life issue.

The storyline was developed in collaboration with The Katie Piper Foundation and Acid Survivors Trust International (ASTI). Actor Ryan Prescott, who plays Ryan Connor, spoke to acid attack survivor Andreas Christopheros to prepare for the role.
