Channel 4's acclaimed drama Patience is set to return for a new series, featuring a stellar cast that includes a familiar face from Coronation Street. Actor Tony Hirst, who played fireman Paul Kershaw on the long-running ITV soap, has confirmed his involvement in the hit show.
Tony Hirst's Role in Patience
In a recent interview with Betway, Hirst revealed that he is currently filming the new series of Patience, one of Channel 4's most successful dramas. "I'm working on a Channel Four drama called Patience. We've been shooting in York, and then there's a hiatus before they film the interiors," he shared. The actor added that exteriors are shot in both York and Belgium, and he is waiting to head to Belgium next month to complete his scenes.
Hirst's Co-Star Praise
Hirst expressed admiration for his co-star Jessica Hynes, calling her "absolutely fantastic" and "a deeply lovely human being." He described the cast and crew as a lovely group of people to work with.
About Patience
Patience debuted in 2025 and became Channel 4's "most successful" drama that year. Set in York, the series follows Patience (played by Ella Maisy Purvis), who works in the criminal records department of City of York Police. The second series, released earlier this year, featured a murder mystery at York Minster, a killing at the railway museum, and a magical trail ending in a Hall of Mirrors.
Tony Hirst's Career Highlights
Hirst joined Coronation Street in 2010 as Paul Kershaw, a fireman involved in major storylines, including a love triangle with Eileen Grimshaw and his wife Lesley, who suffered from Alzheimer's. Contrary to earlier reports, his character did not die but left Weatherfield after being accused of racism. Hirst has also appeared in Hollyoaks, Boiling Point, Brassic, and Riot Women.
Coronation Street airs weekdays at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, while Patience is available to watch on Channel 4.
