Coronation Street star Olivia Frances Brown has confirmed that 'comeuppance' is on the cards, but has teased that viewers will have to wait and see who gets it. The actress has been speaking about what lies ahead in the ITV soap, filmed in Salford, as her character Jodie Ramsey remains at the centre of upcoming drama.
Jodie's Arrival and Troubled Past
Jodie arrived in Weatherfield in January following a dramatic multi-vehicle crash involving residents of the cobbles and the Emmerdale village. She was seen tied up in the back of a van driven by Dales returnee Graham Foster, before becoming injured in her escape. She ended up in hospital with all others involved in the horror smash, including a then-pregnant Shona and David. Having spotted her sibling, it was not long before Jodie revealed herself to be Shona's long-lost sister.
After Shona's frosty reception, David invited Jodie to stay at No.8 Coronation Street. But she has been causing trouble ever since, previously trying to get in between her sister and brother-in-law, seemingly wanting Shona's life as her own. In upcoming scenes, Jodie will make her next attempt to wipe her sister from the picture. Convinced she is owed her own shot at happiness, she shamelessly declares to David that he "deserves someone that will treat you right."
What Drives Jodie
Asked what is driving Jodie, Olivia said: "It’s all about her warped mind. Jodie has convinced herself that David symbolises her potential for future happiness. She’s lost the plot a little bit and truly believes David is the answer to all her wants and needs - which obviously isn’t reality! She’s just completely hooked on that idea now."
The drama reaches new heights next week, when David reveals that Doug Ramsey, Shona and Jodie's dad, has swiped both the toaster and the biscuit tin, which Jodie plays down and assures him he probably just needs his meds tweaked. Meanwhile, Shona confides in Bethany Platt that she is worried about her own mental state as she often hears Harper crying when she is not there.
The Gun and Its Aftermath
Later, when Jodie calls Doug's doctor and accuses him of being a danger to the family, the mental health team arrives to assess him. Shona tearfully tells him how sorry she is, but as Doug is led away, he warns Shona to watch her back where Jodie is concerned. Bethany later catches Jodie red-handed, but Jodie has her own plan to keep Bethany quiet.
As Jodie returns home with Shona's birthday cake, she finds Shona frantically searching the living room. Shona explains she heard the crying again, but it sounded like a recording. As David and Jodie decorate the bistro for Shona's birthday party, Lily Platt arrives. When Lily's phone is plugged into the docking station, the room fills with Harper's crying. Shona accuses Lily of recording it, but an upset Lily flees the party. A flashforward will take viewers to No.8, where the living room is strewn with belongings as a paramedic tends to a casualty on the floor.
Back in the present day, a family feud between Shona and Jodie reaches its breaking point, accusations fly, and secrets are exposed. When a weapon is drawn, a gunshot rings out. As the dust settles, one person lies stricken. Speaking about filming, Olivia shared: "It was so exciting! It’s not every day at work that someone brings out a real weapon - with a professional gun handler on set to show you how to use it safely. When I read the script, I knew it could truly be anyone getting shot…"
As the week draws to a close, David calls an ambulance and explains that someone has been shot. The paramedics arrive with the firearms officer, and DS Lisa Connor-Swain questions David about the shooting. Teasing the aftermath, Olivia added: "It’s definitely been a long time coming for it to blow up between Jodie and Shona. Let’s just say... somebody is about to get their comeuppance and you’ll just need to watch to find out!"
