Coronation Street's Ryan Russell: Secret Relationship with Co-Star Before Split
Corrie Star Ryan Russell's Secret Romance with Co-Star Revealed

Ryan Russell has become a fan favourite on Coronation Street playing Michael Bailey. The actor joined the ITV soap in 2019, when Michael moved to Weatherfield with his family, including his parents Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) and Aggie (Lorna Laidlaw), and siblings James (Jason Callender) and Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown).

Michael's relationship with Grace Vickers (Kate Spencer) ended when Grace fell pregnant and Michael, afraid of commitment, backed away. His ex later suffered a miscarriage before the couple reconciled. Michael and Grace welcomed their daughter Glory (Maiya M) in 2021, but the relationship didn't last as Michael realised he only wanted Glory, not Grace. Now, Michael lives at number three with Glory and his family, working as a telesales agent at Underworld.

Ryan Russell's Secret Romance

Many Corrie fans may be surprised to learn that actor Ryan was once in a relationship with one of his former co-stars. Before taking on the role of Michael, Ryan was best known as a CBeebies presenter from 2017 to 2019, where he met fellow presenter Evie Pickerill. The couple dated for three years and regularly kept fans updated about their lives on social media.

After celebrating his 30th birthday, Ryan notably thanked Evie for making it "special." He wrote on Instagram: "Thanks to everyone who took the time out to wish me a Happy Birthday over the weekend! Special shout-out to @evie.pickerill for going above and beyond to make my 30th a birthday to remember," alongside a heart emoji.

Life After the Split

Ryan and Evie split in 2023, with Ryan reportedly moving on with Manchester-based model Sasha Tesoro. Meanwhile, Evie began a relationship with actor Alex Phelps, who has also appeared on several CBeebies shows and pantos. The couple announced their engagement in January, with Evie posting smiling images of the pair at Salcombe beach following the proposal.

"The easiest YES of my life. What a wonderful start to 2026, engaged to the man of my dreams. Alex, you make me happier than I ever thought possible, a love like ours is one in a million. Thank you for making this day so special," she wrote in the caption.

It's been a tumultuous time on the cobbles for the Bailey family, following Dee-Dee's exit in December 2025. Ed, Michael and James have since rallied around Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) as he continues to look after his wife Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney), who suffers from early-onset dementia.

Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and STV, while Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and STV as part of ITV's new soap power hour scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
