Coronation Street viewers are convinced Gary Windass and Sarah Platt are concealing a significant secret in Weatherfield, but they do not believe it involves an affair or the murder of Theo Silverton.
Fans Dismiss Affair and Murder Theories
The villainous Theo (James Cartwright) was killed off earlier this year after his twisted actions were exposed, sparking a major whodunnit on the ITV soap. His body was discovered at the end of a heavily promoted Murder Week, during which he was one of five villains who could have been eliminated. His death followed a gripping issue-led storyline where he tormented Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) for nearly a year.
The list of potential suspects includes Todd Grimshaw, Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Gary Windass (Mikey North), and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson). While Summer, who maintains her innocence, has been arrested for Theo's killing, it appears that Gary and his former flame Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) are trying to hide something, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
Last week, Gary confessed that whatever they are hiding has worn him down, telling Sarah that he 'doesn't know how much more he can take' and that he 'can't do this anymore'.
New Fan Theories Emerge
Although it remains unclear what Sarah and Gary are concealing, fans have shared their theories online. Some believe the pair had a fling on the night of Theo's killing and are trying to keep it from their partners, while others suspect Gary could be the murderer. However, a new theory suggests that neither of them actually killed Theo.
Online, viewers speculate that Sarah and Gary only had a 'scuffle' with Theo on the night he was murdered, and the real killer is still at large. One fan on a Coronation Street Facebook page pondered: 'I think maybe Sarah had a scuffle with Theo, Gary saved her, neither of them killed him, but they know how it would look if anyone knew anything.'
Another person agreed: 'I don't think it was them.' A third added: 'It's nothing to do with an affair and I don't think they killed Theo either. Probably just saw him the night he was murdered.' Yet another fan wrote: 'Okay here's my take - I reckon Gary attacked Theo and thinks he killed him and ran off, but Theo wasn't actually dead, and someone else finished him off, but Gary didn't see the second person so he thinks he did it.'
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
