Corrie Fans Doubt Carl Webster's Redemption Amid Dark Theories

Coronation Street fans have doubled down on their distrust for Carl Webster as they think they have rumbled his dark future, despite his apparent efforts to make amends in Weatherfield.

As those who follow the ITV soap know, the character's arrival last year marked the first time viewers had ever seen him, with the younger half-sibling of Kevin and Debbie Webster only having been mentioned by name previously. An affair with his sister-in-law, Abi Webster, and a fling with neighbour James Bailey have since followed, but more importantly, it was recently revealed that Carl is actually Debbie's son, with the truth coming out as she took the blame for him following a horror crash in January that caused the death of Weatherfield vicar, Billy Mayhew.

Carl discovered the truth as he admitted his guilt over the horror crash, which took place in January and claimed the life of vicar Billy Mayhew, as he was letting Debbie take the blame after he coldly pulled her from the passenger side into the driver's seat at the time of the incident to make it seem like she was behind the wheel. And Carl did not take the news well and took pleasure in seeing Debbie, who was diagnosed with dementia last year, taking the rap for the crash, before she was sentenced to time behind bars.

Eventually, with her health suffering, Debbie was freed following a successful appeal, and while she was led to believe that Carl wanted to make amends and work on a relationship, his true motives were uncovered, with him just after money, and Debbie sent him packing from Weatherfield. But as Corrie fans know, Carl's exit was disrupted when he was caught tampering with the brakes on Kevin's car in a bid for revenge, only to end up close to death himself. It is only recently been revealed that it was Tyrone Dobbs who accidentally knocked the car jack, leaving the vehicle crushing his body.

Helping Tyrone to cover the incident, Ronnie Bailey took him to the hospital, where he flatlined and had to be revived, leading to Debbie having a change of heart about him leaving. But as Corrie fans have seen this week, Kevin discovered what Carl had done, and it ended in a gun-wielding showdown in the garage. While the weapon, which Carl had gotten from Fiona Morley, ended up firing in a tussle, it was confirmed in Tuesday's (June 16) episode of the long-running show that Carl and Kevin, as well as Ronnie and Tyrone, were all safe. Later, Kevin and Carl decided to finally end their feud, with Carl vowing that he wanted to be a better man.

However, Corrie fans are not buying it, and they have been sharing their theories that things will still end badly for Carl, especially with Fiona's continued appearance on the cobbles already confirmed. @suzicarrigan77 said: "Why do I get the feeling that things are going to turn bad for Carl." @tracy.c70 commented: "Carl is either going to end up dead or made to leave by his family and Ronnie will become involved with Fiona." @zookeeper333 wrote: "Well done Kevin but you just can't trust Carl." @Bo88797665 noted: "I don't still believe that Carl wants to change or wants to end it. He's too headstrong for all that." @demelcy typed: "Carl sort of making up with everyone now, definitely gonna be killed off." Others, however, are hoping for the best. @julia.fortier.18 shared: "I hope it's true redemption ....kev hope Abi sees that Kevin is for her." @ibboryan posted: "Redemption arc for Carl would be a great storyline." @easports7m added: "Hope Carl is for real this time."
