Fans of Coronation Street were heartbroken when Mason Radcliffe was killed off in 2025, but actor Luca Toolan has been keeping busy since his exit from the cobbles.
Luca Toolan's Famous Dad
Luca is no stranger to the limelight thanks to his famous father, Mike Toolan. Mike is a renowned radio DJ recognised for his work on The Hits Radio alongside ex-Emmerdale and Hollyoaks actress Gemma Atkinson. The father and son share a strong connection. When Luca secured his part on Coronation Street, he immediately rang his father to share the exciting news. Proud dad Mike couldn't wait to announce the news on air, telling listeners: "Luca has been unveiled as the new baddie (Mason) on Coronation Street. Absolute dream come 'true' for him. Liam McCheyne and all the amazing Corrie cast and crew have made him feel so at home."
Luca often posts pictures with his dad on social media. Earlier this year, in April, the pair headed to Japan. Luca shared several photos from their trip, including a photo of a Sumo-wrestling match and selfies of the father-and-son duo taking in the sights.
Life After Coronation Street
Since his soap exit, Luca has kept himself busy. Just months after his character was killed off, he revealed he finished filming a short film, calling the experience a "dream come true." He told The Sun in October 2025: "I just finished a short film, I'm loving life. This short film was a dream come true, it was a medieval short film… they built a whole set, they built me a sword from scratch. It sounds really nerdy, but for me it was so fun. And then from that I'm auditioning for film and TV, so I guess within the next six months you might start seeing me on your screens."
'Crumbling' in a Recent Audition
Earlier this year, Luca took part in an audition for what he called the "biggest role of my life." However, things didn't go to plan. In a TikTok video in January, Luca shared a video of him heading to an audition. "POV: Recall Audition for Paul McCartney (Beatles TV show)," was written on the video that included clips of him getting ready and driving to the audition. He said: "I've arrived, wish me luck…"
In a follow-up video, Luca gave fans a rundown on how it went. He candidly shared: "I went into the casting office and I'm having a conversation with the casting associate just before going into the room with the casting director. She says one thing that throws me off - 'oh you're the only Paul we're going to see today'. Head gone." He added: "In that moment I know I'm the first Paul and I know that we're down to probably about five or six of us max. I've got a chance at landing the biggest role of my entire career, what do I do? My energy, my focus completely transfers from the process to now the outcome."
Luca explained: "So all I care about in that moment is now okay, I have to impress the casting director, I have to do a good read, I have to make them like me. And this is applicable to anything in life, the moment you take your eyes off the process, the moment you drop the ball and your nervous system goes into loss prevention." He went on: "I walk in the room, I speak to the casting director, we talk about the project do the read and it's flat. It is miles off what I did on tape and I just crumbled. I crumble."
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
