Coronation Street fans are convinced they have uncovered a major twist involving Maria Connor, played by Samia Longchambon. The character, who has been on the ITV soap since 2000, is currently at the center of the investigation into Theo Silverton's murder. Maria gave her husband, Gary Windass (Mikey North), a false alibi for the night of the crime.
Gary's Strange Behavior
Gary has been acting suspiciously, especially around his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien). The former couple have been seen whispering and sharing intimate conversations, raising eyebrows among their family members. On Monday (June 15), Maria spotted Gary and Sarah hugging on the street, further fueling her suspicions.
Gary told Sarah to delete all messages from their phones, as Maria watched with growing distrust. Later, at the salon, Maria confided in Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) and Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) about her belief that Gary is having an affair with Sarah.
“Have you got evidence?” Izzy asked. Maria replied, “He’s just seemed really distant. I’ve seen them together talking and hugging. But something about it has just seemed off. Like, intense. So, I checked his phone.” She added, “I found nothing. Like, no texts, no messages, nothing for weeks.” Fiz suggested, “Love, you need to talk to him, find out what’s going on.”
Maria's Investigation
Maria then questioned Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), Sarah’s best friend, about any strange behavior between Sarah and Gary. “Don’t tell me you haven’t seen them having little intense chats?” she said. Todd replied, “Yeah, I mean, Sarah’s been struggling since she got attacked. If they’re talking, it’ll be about that, surely,” but Maria remained unconvinced.
Fan Theories
As Maria continues to investigate, some viewers have turned their attention to her. A number of fans believe Maria might be projecting her anger onto Gary because she could be Theo’s secret murderer. This would explain why she isn’t questioning his involvement in the crime.
“So we’re getting close to finding out who murdered Theo,” one person wrote on a Facebook fan page, alongside a list of suspects. Sharing their theory, another added, “Maria. What if she knows Gary isn’t involved because she actually did it?” A third said, “Omg best plot twist ever,” while another commented, “This would be insane!”
