Coronation Street fans have issued a demand as ITV's schedule changes continue to cause chaos for their soap viewing. However, not everyone agrees on the preferred episode length.
In January, Corrie became part of a 'soap power hour' alongside Emmerdale, with half-hour episodes airing each weeknight. ITV said this was due to changing viewing habits. The change launched dramatically with a history-making crossover crash involving both soaps.
Since then, characters have returned to their respective shows, and fans adjusted to the half-hour format. However, coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which started last week, has disrupted the schedule.
This week, Corrie aired hour-long episodes on Monday (June 15) and Tuesday (June 16) at 9pm, but won't return until Friday (June 19) in its usual 30-minute slot from 8.30pm to 9pm.
Fans are divided on the format change. @hayley_js_ said: "Wooooo lets keep having these long episodes please, hate the 20 minute episodes bad idea." @alisonlewsley echoed: "How great was that to have 2 evenings of hour long episodes? I absolutely hate the bite size episodes they now do, it’s impossible to really get into the story lines these days. Such a bad decision."
@backyardchick1 commented: "Brilliant having an hour episode! The 30 mins ones with the ad break doesn't give enough time to get into it #corrie." @CorrieRamblings shared: "Feel like I owe some of you an apology. I was quite vocal about how much I was looking forward to the return to 30 minute episodes but honestly, the hour long eps this week have been better than anything we’ve had all year #corrie."
However, not everyone agrees. @HasanHussain777 asked: "Can #Emmerdale and #Corrie go back to the half an hour episodes please? Hour long episodes drag." @EdithBo11775637 added: "I think I prefer the half-hour episodes if I'm being honest. This is really dragging now #Corrie."
Next week, more schedule changes are ahead. Corrie will air only on Monday (June 22) and Tuesday (June 23) for half-hour at 9.30pm, and Thursday (June 25) for an hour from 9pm.
