Coleen Rooney has revealed her one regret over the Wagatha Christie case, calling the period the "worst time of my life" and wishing she had sought legal advice before posting her now-famous social media statement.
On 9 October 2019, Rooney published an explosive public statement across several platforms, claiming somebody in her inner circle had been sharing personal information, ending with the iconic line: "It's ………. Rebekah Vardy's account."
A Lawyer First
Asked if she would handle things differently today, Rooney said: "Yeah, I would have got the post looked over by a lawyer first before I posted it. Because it was them words that got me to court."
Although Rooney won the court case, she said the whole ordeal seriously affected her life.
Impact on Family Life
The I'm A Celebrity contestant explained: "Presence with my family. That was the biggest thing I felt so guilty about, was not being present in the time, you know, I was there physically, but mentally. And as a mum, as a wife, my mind was just on that, that court case and just questioning myself, like, do I really need to be in this situation? I'm a strong person, but, you know, there's times where I do break and that's, I'm real. This broke me as a person. It stripped my personality."
She described the period as "the worst time of my life," adding the "whole court case, it unsettled our home. You know, I was emotional. I was ratty. I was impatient. I was so annoyed with myself that I let that happen. But I couldn't control it."
No Contact From Vardy
Years have passed since the case, and Rooney was asked whether Rebekah Vardy has ever reached out to her since. "No," replied Rooney on the We Need To Talk podcast. "We never had a friendship. We didn't socialise. We, you know, we were acquaintance because we were both married to partners and they played for England together. But, you know, the thing is, in the first place, why was she in that group? And maybe that's a moment where I should have questioned myself."
