Coleen Rooney has revealed she contemplated splitting from her husband Wayne while discussing their marital difficulties in the couple's upcoming TV programme.
Marriage struggles laid bare
The duo, both 40 years old, tied the knot in 2008 having first crossed paths as teenagers, following Wayne's success in football. The pair have navigated numerous challenges throughout their 24-year romance, from infidelity controversies to drink-driving incidents.
In their fresh documentary series, The Real Rooneys, Coleen spoke frankly about their relationship troubles. She honestly admitted: "There are times where I think 'Is the answer to see what it's like if we were separated?'"
"But we still care for each other; we still have good times. You know, we still love each other."
Confronting Wayne on camera
At another moment in the programme, which launches on Thursday, September 24, she confronts her spouse: "It's been a bit of a lads holiday for you, staying up all night. You can't just keep doing what you do."
"It is not fair of everyone else. It is only you that can fix it because no one else is doing it. I'm just hoping that things change."
Past controversies revisited
Throughout the initial years of their marriage, Wayne's numerous alleged affairs dominated headlines – with The Sunday Mirror revealing in 2010 that he had slept with a prostitute while Coleen was five months pregnant with their eldest son, Kai.
Six years before that incident, Wayne admitted to paying for sex workers in Liverpool during his relationship with Coleen. "I was young and stupid. It was at a time when I was very young and immature and before I had settled down with Coleen," he reflected on the choice.
In 2017, the ex-Manchester United star was caught up in a drink-driving scandal. Wayne had been behind the wheel of a vehicle belonging to a woman he'd encountered at the Bubble Room bar in Alderley Edge. He received a two-year driving ban after admitting to being nearly three times over the legal limit, describing it as a "terrible mistake".
Previous comments and new series
Coleen discussed their relationship struggles during her stint on I'm a Celebrity in 2024. Chatting to fellow contestant Oti Mabuse, she revealed: "Since the first mistake he's made, that's been in the public eye, people have not forgiven."
"When things have happened, the public have wanted it to just go oh, split, you know, that's it, split them up. But the fact is, there's always been love still there. It has been difficult, but we're happy now, after all those years... we're a team."
Elsewhere in the Disney+ docuseries, the couple, joined by their four children Kai, Klay, Kit, and Cass, confessed that they hadn't communicated in days.
All ten episodes of the new series, The Real Rooneys, will be available to stream on Disney+ from Thursday, September 24.
