Actor-singer Bijou Phillips has been hospitalised and is urgently seeking a donor for a second kidney transplant, her representative has confirmed. A previous transplant in 2017 was unsuccessful, and Phillips is in stable but fragile condition.
In a social media post, Phillips appealed for a donor, writing: “I’m asking as a friend, a sister, an aunt, and, most importantly, a single mother to an incredible and brave daughter.” She was born with underdeveloped kidneys and spent her first three months on dialysis.
Phillips is the daughter of late Mamas & the Papas singer John Phillips and his third wife, Genevieve Waite. Her half-siblings include former actor Mackenzie Phillips and singer Chynna Phillips. She made her acting debut in 1999 and appeared in films such as Almost Famous, Bully, and Hostel: Part II, as well as the TV series Raising Hope.
She released one album, I’d Rather Eat Glass, produced by ex-Talking Heads guitarist Jerry Harrison. Phillips was married to actor Danny Masterson from 2011 until 2025; Masterson is serving a 30-year-to-life sentence for rape. The couple have a daughter who turns 12 this Saturday.
