Bec Hewitt is reportedly grappling with empty nest syndrome as her three children grow older and forge their own paths away from home. The former Home and Away star, 42, shares Mia, 20, Cruz, 17, and Ava, 15, with her husband, tennis champion Lleyton Hewitt. An insider told New Idea magazine that Bec finds the transition difficult, saying, 'As the kids get older, Bec's seeing less and less of them, which makes her sad. She's twiddling her thumbs.'
Bec's children are increasingly independent: eldest daughter Mia is touring the country with her indie band Father's Favourite, son Cruz is pursuing a tennis career, and youngest Ava is busy with dance rehearsals and a growing social life as she pursues TV ambitions. The source added, 'They love their mum – and Lleyton does, too – but they’re all so busy they can't see that Bec is actually finding it tough without them.'
Lleyton has suggested Bec reach out to friends like Isla Fisher or former TV contacts, but Bec is reportedly reluctant. 'The last thing she wants is to throw a pity party,' the insider said. Another source suggested it might be the perfect time for Bec to return to Home and Away, reprising her role as Hayley Smith, which she played from 1998 to 2005. 'Even if it was just a guest role. Why not?' they said.
Bec's daughter Mia has been working as a casual wardrobe assistant on Home and Away for over a year, according to a Channel Seven spokesperson. Mia also performs with her folk-rock duo Father's Favourite in Sydney's Inner West, returning to the family's $10.3 million estate in Glenhaven. Lleyton Hewitt's net worth is estimated at over $20 million from his tennis career and sponsorships.
