A couple who rekindled their love 31 years after a holiday romance are to set up home together. Kate Pymm, 50, from Guisborough, and Guenther Baer, 57, from Germany, first met in Devon in 1989 when they were 17 and 23 respectively.
They exchanged love letters for four years before losing contact, and both went on to marry and later divorce. In November 2020, during the UK's second Covid lockdown, Kate discovered her old letters while searching for Christmas decorations and decided to write to Guenther again.
Guenther, who had been thinking of her for eight years, was 'gobsmacked' to receive her letter. They spoke daily after that and met in January 2021. Kate is now preparing to move to Germany to start their life together.
Kate said: 'Part of you thinks you've waited 31 years but also there was a lot of adventures in that time... It's been difficult, but when it's right, it's right, and I know it's right.'
