Barbara Flynn Praises 'Funny' Co-Star After Beyond Paradise Exit

Beyond Paradise star Barbara Flynn has paid tribute to her co-star Vincent Franklin following his exit from the BBC series. Flynn, who plays Anne Lloyd, described Franklin as a 'funny man' and a 'lovely addition' to the show.

Flynn Recalls Fun On and Off Screen

Appearing on a repeat of Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, Flynn opened up about working with Franklin, who played Mr. James Smith. 'We got on incredibly well. He's a funny man, and we had enormous fun off-screen as well as on. He was a lovely addition and a bit of a mystery,' she said.

Flynn also discussed how Anne Lloyd's involvement in the storyline created chaos. 'Anne decides to get much more involved than that, then there's a real shift,' she added.

Working with Kris Marshall

Flynn also commented on working with Kris Marshall, who plays Humphrey Goodman. 'They all find it difficult having Anne in the station. Humphrey is as polite as he could be, but he's so in his head, and Anne is constantly bemused by him but very fond,' she said.

Marshall also praised Franklin, calling him a 'genius actor' and enjoying their on-screen rivalry.

Behind the Scenes Challenges

During the interview, Flynn revealed she broke her ankle after the first week of filming. 'The rest of it was filmed of me from wheelchairs and crutches. I thought I'd lost a job, but they said, 'No, no Barbara, we will wheel you up and down',' she recalled.

Flynn described working on the show as 'a joy,' praising writers Tony Jordan and Tim Key. She noted that the show's global popularity stems from its pleasant nature. 'I said to Sally (Bretton), 'Here we are sitting on a bench on a beach at work, doing yoga. It was a complete delight',' she said.

Beyond Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
