Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have reportedly ended their relationship after nearly three years together. The couple, who met on the set of the blockbuster film adaptations of Wicked, where they played Glinda and Boq respectively, were first romantically linked in July 2023. They made their relationship Instagram official in November 2024, sharing a backstage photo from the Australia premiere of Wicked showing Slater carrying the train of Grande's dress.
Slater, 34, publicly expressed his joy when Grande, 32, received her first Oscar nomination in January 2025. However, multiple reports now indicate the couple has split. A source told People Magazine that the breakup was amicable: 'It's amicable, they gave lots of time and careful consideration and decided to go their separate ways.' The insider added that they 'are still friends and very supportive of one another' and revealed that the former couple had 'been quietly broken up for several months.'
Grande Focusing on Music Career
Grande is said to be 'doing great' following the separation and is focusing on her Eternal Sunshine tour, which recently kicked off, ahead of her upcoming album Petal, set for release on July 31. In March, the 'We Can't Be Friends' singer shared her pride in Slater, praising the 'beautiful run' of the off-Broadway play Marcel on the Train, in which he starred as French mime artist Marcel Marceau and co-wrote. She wrote on Instagram Stories: 'Congratulations on a beautiful run of this very beautiful show. So very proud.'
Previous Reports of Strong Relationship
Last November, sources described the couple as 'making it work' despite busy schedules, with one insider telling People: 'They both have a lot going on, but their relationship is the real deal.' At the time, they were promoting their new film Wicked: For Good, though they were rarely seen together earlier in the year. Another source noted that the pair 'always preferred to be low-key.'
Representatives for both Grande and Slater have been contacted for comment.
