The mother of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! favourite Angry Ginge has publicly addressed her son's famous moniker, revealing its surprising and rather innocent origins. Appearing on ITV's Lorraine on Monday, 1st December 2025, Michelle Burtwhistle set the record straight alongside the YouTube star's sister, Tasha.
The Real Story Behind 'Angry Ginge'
Michelle explained that the nickname, which has become synonymous with her son Morgan Burtwhistle, stems from his younger days playing football video games. "I am so, so proud of him and he isn't angry," she stated. "That was the name he came up with quite a few years ago when he used to sulk when he'd lost a football match on FIFA." She was keen to emphasise that the persona does not reflect reality, describing Morgan as "the most caring, kind person you could meet."
The 27-year-old content creator, who hails from a council estate in Salford, Greater Manchester, first began live-streaming from his bedroom. He has since amassed over five million followers across his social platforms, starting with the username Angryginge13.
Facing Fears and Family Pride in the Jungle
Michelle expressed immense pride in her son's jungle journey, particularly his ability to confront a severe fear of spiders. "That was the worst one... doesn't even like putting the wheelie bins out at night in case there's a tiny spider on it," she admitted, referencing her letter from home. "He has really, really surprised me with that." She encouraged viewers to vote for him to become King of the Jungle.
His emotional motivation for winning was recently highlighted by close friend and fellow Bov Boys member, Jakey Davies. He revealed Ginge wants to win for his mother, who raised him and his sister on a salary of £12,500 a year. "He said he wants to do it for her and make her proud," Jakey said, noting Ginge is an inspiration for people from working-class backgrounds.
Camp Dynamics and Public Perception
In the camp, Ginge has forged a strong friendship with rapper Aitch, forming a comedic trio with actress Ruby Wax. Wax previously joked about his real name, Morgan Burtwhistle, stating: "Oh, I see why you changed it. It's so not cool!"
Jakey Davies also addressed a minor flashpoint where Jack Osbourne and Ruby Wax seemed uneasy about Ginge and Aitch's leadership, suggesting it may have been a misunderstanding of their humour. "There are some people in there who aren't necessarily from the UK, and they might not understand certain sarcastic traits," he explained.
He added that the public sees the real Morgan, stating: "He's genuinely exactly the same as he's on camera... he's not controversial. He's literally just a sound bloke." With Ginge now the bookies' favourite to win, his story continues to resonate, proving that behind the fiery nickname is a determined and kind-hearted man from Manchester.
