Beverley Callard has revealed that she 'lost consciousness' while filming on set as she provided fans with a 'horrendous' health update.
The former Coronation Street actress announced in February that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. With the news coming just before her first appearance in Irish soap, Fair City, Beverley underwent radiotherapy treatment over the summer.
Health update on social media
Beverley, who played Liz McDonald on the ITV soap, has been keeping fans on her journey with the disease on social media. She candidly shared the realities of undergoing 10 rounds of radiotherapy treatment, where radiation is used to kill cancer cells.
Speaking after finishing her radiotherapy treatment, the 69-year-old said: "I've done it, I've just finished my last radiotherapy session, fingers crossed. That was number ten for me, and lots of people have to have lots more, I know that. But for now, that's finished so hopefully, don't know for sure, but hopefully I won't need any more."
The TV star's husband Jon McEwan, who filmed the video, was then heard saying: "Positive thinking, darling, that's it."
Incident while filming Fair City
Returning to Instagram on Thursday (September 24), Beverley revealed that an ambulance had to be called while she was filming Fair City. She plays Lily Patterson on the programme which began back in 1989.
Opening up about what happened, Beverley said: "I've been at work this week, filming the most amazing scenes, really good, great scripts. Working with people who are so good, but good fun as well. It was all going swimmingly and then today, I've no idea what happened to me but I was all ready to start a new scene.
"We just sat there, getting ready, about to run lines and I sort of… the only way to explain it is I lost consciousness for a few minutes, maybe 10 minutes which was very odd. Because of protocol at work, they had to check me out and everything. An ambulance came, I desperately didn't want to go to hospital, I recovered and then felt fine again."
Recovery and next steps
According to Beverley, she felt 'boiling hot' and went home early from filming. She noted that paramedics told her to rest all weekend.
She added: "I have to tell you, I feel a complete fraud because I'm home and feel perfectly normal. The only thing that did happen was my blood pressure was through the roof."
Sadly, Beverley admitted that she has 'not been right' since her radiotherapy treatment for cancer concluded and still suffers from 'horrendous' nausea now and then.
"But aside from that, I don't know what's going on. I'm at the hospital next week so I'll probably know more. I'm awaiting the results of these other tests, some of these biopsies they've taken from my stomach. If anyone else has had this please let me know because I don't know at all," she said.
Beverley captioned her post "That was an eventful day at work! Not really something I can explain but I certainly wasn't expecting a visit from paramedics today. I'm feeling fine now… just another sign that something isn't quite right."
