Jeremy Spake, who rose to fame on the BBC series Airport in 2005, is now virtually unrecognisable 18 years later. The 52-year-old former ground services manager for Aeroflot at Heathrow has undergone a dramatic change, swapping his chestnut hair and matching beard for a clean-shaven look and bald head.
Spake's television career took off after his appearance on Airport, leading to roles hosting Toughest Jobs in Britain and City Hospital. He also authored two books: Jeremy's Airport and The Toughest Job in Britain, drawing on his experiences at Heathrow and the gruelling jobs he undertook for the show.
While pursuing media opportunities, Spake continued to advance in his aviation career. Fluent in Russian, he became a services manager for Aeroflot and later Deputy Director of Isle of Man Airport. However, he stepped away from that role to return to Heathrow for a six-part BBC documentary series, The Airport: Back In The Skies, which aired in 2022.
The series, filmed from October 2021, explored the airport's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Spake got involved in preparing a Boeing 737 for flight and assisted stranded tourists, showcasing his hands-on approach. Fans were struck by his changed appearance, noting his bald head, clean-shaven face, and contact lenses replacing his old glasses.
