Adam Peaty's brother James has been arrested on suspicion of harassment after allegedly sending threats to the Olympic swimmer during his stag weekend. The 34-year-old was taken into custody at his home in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, on Monday and has since been released on conditional bail.
Peaty, 30, was met by police at Manchester Airport upon his return from a stag do in Budapest, where he was joined by his future father-in-law Gordon Ramsay. The swimmer is due to marry Ramsay's daughter Holly in the coming weeks, but the celebrations have been overshadowed by a bitter family rift.
Staffordshire Police confirmed: 'We arrested a 34-year-old man, from the Uttoxeter area, on November 11, 2025, on suspicion of harassment. The man was released on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.' A source told The Sun that Peaty believes his mother Caroline has been enabling James's behaviour, and described the police greeting as 'ridiculous' as James had no intention of harming his brother.
Peaty's father Mark has spoken out, saying the situation has 'got out of hand'. He told The Sun: 'They're brothers, they've always been close, but like any normal family, brothers fight, argue, fall out, make up and start all over again. But it's got out of hand, there's been very little empathy towards Jamie's genuine mental health difficulties.'
The brothers fell out in 2021 after Peaty's autobiography addressed James's 'demons', including past drug use. They reconciled, and James was asked to be a groomsman, but their relationship broke down again in June over a building project. Peaty's family, including his mother, have been uninvited from the wedding, with only his sister reportedly attending.
Caroline's sister Louise has criticised Peaty and Holly, accusing them of body-shaming Caroline over a dress request. She said: 'How can Adam and Holly sit there and say Caroline wasn't invited because of the way my sister looks? She doesn't suit the look Holly is looking for?! WTF body shaming a 60-year-old woman!' Holly and Adam have not commented.
