Rhys Healey returns to Toulouse to hero's welcome from fans
Rhys Healey gets hero's welcome on Toulouse return

Former Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey was given a hero's welcome as he returned to former club Toulouse at the weekend.

The 31-year-old is currently without a club after leaving League One side Huddersfield Town, where he scored five goals in 22 games in all competitions during a two-year stay. He was shipped out on loan to Barrow towards the end of last season, but made just one appearance.

Success in France

Despite his recent struggles, his stock remains sky high at French side Toulouse. Healey joined the then-Ligue 2 side in the summer of 2020, having joined from Milton Keynes Dons, the club he joined after leaving Cardiff in 2019.

He ended up being a huge success in France, netting 39 goals in 77 games for the club. It was a run that understandably made him a huge favourite with supporters.

Fans' chant

Many regularly toasted his performances with a chorus of 'Healey's on fire, your defence is terrified', a variation on the terrace chant made famous by Northern Ireland and Wigan fans when they used to salute striker Will Grigg.

While attending the weekend's Ligue 1 clash with Lyon, the club's ultras couldn't help but belt out another rendition of the song. In a video posted by the club, Healey looked visibly taken aback by the reception, and could be heard saying "incredible", and "crazy".

Emotional response

The caption for the clip simply read: "The emotion of King Rhys when his mythical chant echoes through the Virage Brice." He wrote on social media: "Thanks for having me back over @ToulouseFC, a place that will always be special to me and my family. To the fans out there you are incredible people we appreciate you a lot."

Toulouse unfortunately couldn't treat their former hero to a win on the day, however, with Lyon emerging with a 2-0 victory.
