Newcastle United favourite Peter Beardsley will headline a special evening at Shark Club in Gallowgate this September, sharing stories from his career and answering questions from fans just a short walk from St James' Park.
The former England international will be interviewed live at the sports bar on September 24, with the audience limited to 150 guests. Attendees will hear tales from his two spells at Newcastle United in the 1980s and 1990s, including on-pitch moments, off-pitch anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories, followed by a Q&A session.
A night of stories and photos
Beardsley's appearance comes ahead of another fan event in Newcastle: An Evening with Newcastle Legends Live at the O2 City Hall on October 12, where he will join fellow former players Nolberto Solano, Rob Lee, John Beresford and Micky Quinn. The Shark Club event, however, offers a more intimate setting, with tickets starting at £20 plus fees, including a light buffet. A £25 ticket adds a bottle of beer, while the top-price ticket includes a photograph with Beardsley.
Kyran Woodcock, general manager at Shark Club Newcastle, said it will be "fantastic" to host the former player just across the road from the stadium "where he spent much of his brilliant career." He added: "Whether you're a lifelong football fan or simply looking for a fantastic night out, this promises to be an evening full of great food and entertainment. With 2026 marking 40 years since that iconic Argentina World Cup clash, Peter can offer a first-hand perspective of one of the most famous matches in World Cup history, amongst many other fascinating stories."
Career highlights and tributes
Beardsley made his England debut in 1986 and went on to win 59 caps, featuring in the 1986 World Cup squad and starting alongside Gary Lineker in the quarter-final against Argentina, which included Diego Maradona's infamous 'hand of God' goal. He later played for Liverpool, making 175 appearances and winning two First Division titles and an FA Cup, before spells at Everton, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers.
Beardsley was also at St James' Park on Sunday night for Newcastle's first Premier League match of the season, a 2-2 draw with Liverpool, where both sides paid tribute to the late Kevin Keegan. He had previously paid his own moving tribute to the former manager.
The evening at Shark Club runs from 7pm to 10.30pm and is sponsored by Guinness, with scratch card giveaways offering a chance to win prizes. A football memorabilia stand will also be on site. Tickets are available for purchase, and details for the October City Hall event, which also offers meet-and-greet opportunities, have been released separately.
