Several players from Kevin Keegan's famous Entertainers era will reunite for a 'one night only' event in Whitley Bay, after some of them were spotted in Newcastle at the weekend to witness a packed St James' Park pay tribute to their former boss. The event looks set to be a hot ticket for United supporters.
Tributes to King Kev
It has been close to two months since the footballing world came out in force to mourn the loss of King Kev, the man who had a glittering playing career with clubs including Liverpool and NUFC and of course then went on to manage the Magpies on two separate occasions. Nowhere was there more strength of feeling over Kevin's death than the streets of Newcastle; within hours of his death being announced in July, supporters made their way up to St James' to lay tributes and, in the space of a few days, the whole path close to Shearer's bar was full of flowers, shirts and scarves in his honour.
Many of them were used as part of an emotional tribute to Kevin before Newcastle's Premier League opener against his other former club Liverpool on Sunday, which ended 2-2 after the former champions levelled from the penalty spot right at the death. Some players from Newcastle's mid-late 90s squad were seen in the stands at St James' Park at the weekend, after being spotted enjoying drinks at popular Newcastle city centre pub Lady Grey's on Saturday.
Entertainers night details
On Monday it was announced that John Beresford, Rob Lee, Peter Beardsley, Lee Clark and Steve Watson will join forces for a special Keegan's Entertainers night at Whitley Bay Playhouse on Wednesday, November 18. Tickets are already on sale, with a teaser for the event, to be hosted by Sky Sports pundit Pete Graves, a close friend of Kevin's, reading: 'Hear how Keegan dragged Newcastle United from a relegation battle in the Second Division to a title challenge in the Premier League, as the Magpies became heroes on Tyneside and the rest of the nation’s second favourite team!
It's bound to be an emotional evening as we remember the former Newcastle United legend with some of his greatest players.'
