Nicola Peltz dedicated her Rising Star award at the Venice Film Festival to her husband Brooklyn Beckham. The actress, 31, who married the eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham in 2022, received the honour at the Kinéo Awards, an independent ceremony held during the annual festival.
In recent times, Nicola has become estranged from her in-laws. Earlier this year, Brooklyn released a bombshell statement explaining why he had decided to publicly disown his family.
Speech at the Kinéo Awards
At the event in Italy, Nicola, who stars as prima ballerina Margo in Prima, gave a gracious speech in which she name-checked her co-stars, her family, and her husband. Collecting her award, she said: "Hi everyone. I am normally more comfortable playing a character as an actor than standing in front of an audience, so please bear with me. Thank you so much for this immense honour."
She added: "To receive an award at the Venice Film Festival is something I will carry with me for the rest of my career." Nicola then spoke about her Prima co-star, Faye Dunaway, saying: "Faye you have always been an inspiration to me and learning with you has been incredible."
Thanks to family and husband
Nicola, also known for her roles in Bates Motel and Transformers: Age of Extinction, then thanked her family and husband specifically. She said: "My family are my everything. My mum, dad, (brothers) Diesel and Brad and Brooklyn thank you. You always believe in me. To have your support is the reason I can reach to the stars in the first place," the Daily Mail reports.
The award was presented by Vialina Lemann. The recognition celebrates Nicola's work in the field of entertainment.
Context of the feud
The honour comes amid a well-documented feud with Brooklyn's world-famous parents. Brooklyn accused his parents of manipulating his life, trying to sabotage his relationship with Nicola, and damaging his mental health in their quest to keep 'brand Beckham' moving along.
In a scathing statement in January, he alleged that they had 'controlled narratives' about the famous family, calling out their 'performative social media posts' and 'inauthentic relationships'. He said: "My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn't stopped. The night before our wedding, members of my family told me that Nicola was 'not blood' and 'not family'."
Brooklyn and Nicola later renewed their vows last August in a secret service in Westchester. Although his family were not thought to be in attendance, the ceremony was said to be overseen by the bride's father, Nelson Peltz.
