BBC Gardeners' World star Monty Don has shared a heartwrenching update on his beloved dog Ned after announcing the death of Yorkshire Terrier Patti. Earlier this week, Monty told fans: "I have sad news. Our lovely Patti died suddenly this morning after a very short illness. She was much loved, and lit up our lives. We are all heartbroken."
Ned's Update
Patti's death left Golden Retriever Ned as Monty's only remaining dog, and he has now shared an update on him alongside an emotional picture of the pair having a cuddle. Monty said: "Ned still very much around. Although we are now down to one dog for the first time in 25 years (and that was only for a few months)."
Fan Support
His fans quickly headed for the comments section to show their support, with one writing: "Sending you all love and healing during this time of grief. Sweet Nigel, Nellie and Patti… I've mourned them all."
Someone else said: "Ned looks like he's taking good care of you. Love to Patti – she will be sorely missed." And a third said: "They break our hearts but can't live without them. Sorry for Patti's loss."
Past Losses and Memorials
Monty previously lost his Brittany Spaniel Peggy in January 2026. His dogs Nigel and Nell died in 2020 and 2023, respectively. All his dogs are buried in Monty's beloved garden, as he explained to Saga Magazine: "The garden is theirs as much as mine. It's a good way of remembering them every day as we walk past - and they're part of the garden."
Writing on his blog in 2023 just after Nellie's death, he explained: "At the end of October my lovely dog Nellie finally ended her struggle with the cancer that she had been diagnosed with in June and she is now buried in the coppice alongside Nigel and the other six dogs that have been part of our family for the 32 years that we have lived here."
