Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown was seen queueing alongside fans and members of the band Skerryvore before Scotland's World Cup match against Haiti at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Unexpected Encounter
The Celtic rock band, hailing from Tiree, shared a TikTok video showing Martin Gillespie of Skerryvore engaged in conversation with Gordon Brown while waiting to enter the stadium. The video caption read: "Martin talking absolute sense to Gordon Brown in the queue for the Scotland match." In the footage, the two are seen arm-in-arm, smiling at the camera, while other fans shout to get Brown's attention.
Skerryvore's Role in the World Cup
Skerryvore traveled to the United States to support the Scottish national team and performed at the fanzone at Boston City Hall Plaza before the match. The band's appearance helped energize the crowd ahead of Scotland's 1-0 victory over Haiti, marking Scotland's first World Cup win since 1990, secured by a goal from John McGinn.
Fiddle player Craig Espie described the fanzone performance as "absolutely brilliant fun," noting the impressive turnout despite the early timing. "The best thing about it is just walking down the street and being part of it. It's just an incredible experience being with the Tartan Army when we travel," he said.
Fan Atmosphere
An estimated 40,000 Scotland fans made the trip overseas, consuming thousands of pints of beer, wearing kilts, and waving the Saltire. Singer Alec Dalglish mentioned the intense heat on stage, joking that "the Scottish people are having to keep themselves very well-refreshed to get through this weather."
Gordon Brown's presence in the queue highlighted the widespread support for the team, as the former PM mingled with ordinary fans and band members alike.
