Actress Gillian Anderson turned heads at the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year Awards in a butter yellow gown by Stella McCartney, featuring ruched sleeves and shoulder pads. The 57-year-old star, known for her daring fashion choices, spoke about the relationship between clothing and performance on the red carpet.
Anderson revealed that her favourite character wardrobe was Stella Gibson from The Fall, known for sharp blouses and cool tailoring. However, her latest project, Channel 4's Trespasses set in the 1970s, surprised her. 'Her clothes were really – a lot of polyester, patterns, tunics, things I'd never in a million years wear myself,' she said, adding that the decade might now be her favourite.
The event saw a collective leaning towards Seventies glamour. Olivia Wilde wore a velvet Saint Laurent suit adapted from the label's iconic 'Le Smoking' tuxedo, while Erin Doherty sported a grey Louis Vuitton double-breasted blazer and tailored trousers. Lioness Chloe Kelly, winner of Sportswoman of the Year, embraced full glamour in a bold, sculptural dress with a low back and sheer crystal embroidery.
Other attendees included Mel C, who presented Kelly's award, wearing a Kent and Curwen strapless two-piece with red-stripe detailing. Celia Imrie, 73, epitomised elegance in a boat-necked black velvet gown and diamond cuffs. Musician Jade, honoured as Musician of the Year, stood out in a one-shoulder silk gown with a high-rise slit, while Alex Scott went vintage in a 1920s-inspired Armani waistcoat and skirt.
