Erling Haaland debuts shock buzz cut before Man City opener

Erling Haaland has unveiled a shock new hairstyle ahead of Manchester City's Premier League opener against Bournemouth. His flowing blond locks have vanished, substituted by a sharp, buzz cut, much to the astonishment of the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jack Grealish.

Haaland posted a series of photographs documenting his visit to the barber's chair, offering followers a complete reveal of the final outcome. There were a few surprised reactions when Haaland initially showcased a curtains-style cut partway through the session. Nevertheless, the end result was a tidy finish that will reduce the weight up top.

Social media reveal

The Premier League sensation turned to Instagram with two posts to show off his new look, announcing: "Short hair, don't care" and "New season, new trim."

Haaland has also shared a YouTube video capturing the entire experience. At the start, he said: "This beautiful blond hair, time to let it go. I was thinking about doing it straight after the World Cup but it was so busy so I didn't do it. The season starts now so it's time to get a fresh start and everything."

"The only thing is Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) told me to 'never cut your hair because your strength is in your hair.' I'm a bit nervous. I want a buzz cut like I've been in the military."

Reactions from Guardiola, Grealish and Ibrahimovic

Former City boss Pep Guardiola was distracted from watching Tottenham vs Brentford as Haaland rang him following his haircut. "No way," said the Catalan coach. "You're lucky you have hair, I'd love to have it. Look if you don't like it, it will grow out."

Jack Grealish was contacted and began his call with a laugh. "Nah. You look about 10 years old. Oh my. I can't stop looking at the front of your head, I swear. I love it."

Haaland then telephoned Ibrahimovic. The Swede was distinctly unimpressed. "What the f** did you do? You lost a bet or what? Oh my god, block me and erase my number. My wife says you are crazy."

Noel Gallagher and the season ahead

Also amongst the first to witness Haaland's dramatic new appearance was Oasis star Noel Gallagher. The City striker called Gallagher on FaceTime, leaving the rock star struggling to suppress his amusement.

"No way," he began. "Yes mate, when have you got that done? You look about 17 years old. Change is good, I won't tell anyone."

Having visited the barber on Saturday, Haaland will feature against Bournemouth as Enzo Maresca assumes control at City in the Premier League for the first time. Haaland and his team-mates welcome the Cherries to the Etihad Stadium, determined to make a strong start this campaign.
