BBC presenter's 'Crimewatch' blunder live on air

A BBC news presenter was left red-faced after accidentally getting a show's name wrong live on air. Pete Levy committed the blunder during a recent episode of the BBC Look North Bulletin.

While discussing a popular East Yorkshire location set to appear on Springwatch, Levy announced: 'One of East Yorkshire's top beauty spots featured on BBC Two's Crimewatch programme.' He quickly spotted his error and corrected himself, saying: 'Springwatch programme, I beg your pardon!'

Levy visibly struggled to keep a straight face as he continued: 'Not Crimewatch, Springwatch. Oh, that's a classic, isn't it?' The clip was posted on social media, and fans flooded the comment section with reactions. One viewer wrote: '@peter_levy utter legend!!!! xx.' Another posted: 'Oh dear @peter_levy' alongside two crying-with-laughter emojis.

Not the first on-air mishap

This isn't the first time Peter, who has fronted Look North on weekdays since 2002, has suffered an on-air mishap. In 2023, he was reduced to fits of laughter while reading the day's headlines for Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire.

The story concerned the escalating expenses to fix a Lincoln walkway referred to as the 'Glory Hole.' Peter found himself unable to maintain his composure as he presented the report on the curiously named footpath. He said: 'Now, it's estimated that the bill to repair Lincoln's Glory Hole, will be...'

He briefly hesitated as his professional demeanour crumbled when he grasped the suggestive implications. A grin spread across his face as he tried to continue: 'Will be anything from sixty...' Once more, he started chuckling as he revealed the estimated costs. While he continued laughing, the BBC switched to footage of the 'Glory Hole' as Peter informed audiences of the duration of its closure, all while laughing throughout.

BBC Look North broadcasts three main weekday bulletins: a lunchtime update at 1:35 PM, the main evening programme at 6:30 PM, and a late-night bulletin around 10:30 PM.
