A unique snack available only in one historic UK city has been branded 'one of the best things in the world' by a delighted visitor. The York Egg, a bacon-wrapped twist on the classic Scotch egg, is sold exclusively at Shambles Sausage and Pie Company in York.
The York Egg Experience
Taylor Marin, originally from Arizona, USA, and her husband Alex Morris from Preston, Lancashire, frequently share videos of food from their different cultures. During a trip to York, they discovered the York Egg and were left amazed.
In an Instagram video, Alex holds up the substantial snack and says, 'Look at the state of that. How have I never heard of this?' After taking a bite, he declares, 'That's one of the best things I've ever had.'
The York Egg is a hard-boiled egg encased in sausage meat, but instead of breadcrumbs, it's wrapped in streaky bacon. The company describes it as 'a golden hen's Scotch Egg wrapped in streaky bacon' and notes it is 'proving very popular.'
Local Reactions
The video sparked astonishment among viewers, including York locals who had never heard of the snack. One commented, 'I live in York and that's the first I've heard of it. I'm checking that gaff out this weekend.' Another said, 'Lived in York all of my 35 years and only just finding out about this?!'
Alex summed up his review: 'If you've not been to York, get a York egg when you turn up. That's a revelation. Every time I come to York I'll be having a York egg at that same gaff. Every single time.'
