Gower College Swansea has announced plans to transform the former M&P building in Gorseinon into a new campus for built environment and renewable technology courses. The motorcycle specialist closed in September 2025 after 47 years, resulting in 50 staff redundancies.
New Campus Details
The college received planning permission from Swansea Council in November 2025 to convert the warehouse into an educational facility. Subject to approvals, the campus will open in late 2028. The college is finalizing a business case for Welsh Government, which will provide a 65% intervention rate.
Chief executive Kelly Fountain described the project as a "significant milestone" for the college, learners, and communities. "This is more than just a new building - it's a bold commitment to the industries shaping our future," she said. Built environment and renewable technology are among the fastest-growing sectors in Wales, aligning with national goals on infrastructure, sustainability, and net zero.
Facilities and Courses
The campus will feature new welding bays, expanding capacity for hands-on technical training. It will offer courses in carpentry, brickwork, plastering, dry lining, tiling, plumbing, electrical, retrofit, and renewable technologies. The provision aligns with opportunities from the Celtic Freeport, a major economic development in South Wales.
The building will also house the college's energy centre, offering commercial courses in hydrogen, solar, and wind turbine technology. These programmes aim to position Gower College at the forefront of the green economy.
Fountain emphasized the learner experience, including social spaces, breakout areas, and additional learning needs support. "Every learner, regardless of individual needs, will have equal access to outstanding opportunities," she added.
