The A628 Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions near Hollingworth, Tameside, this evening following a serious head-on collision, according to National Highways.

Road closure details

The A628 Manchester Road is shut between Moorfield Street in Hollingworth and West Drive in Tintwistle. Derbyshire Police are at the scene after the smash this afternoon. The force has been approached for comment.

Expected duration and diversions

Due to the nature of the incident, the road is expected to remain closed for the rest of the day, National Highways says. Traffic is being diverted via local routes, but drivers travelling from Manchester to Yorkshire are being urged to use alternative trans-Pennine routes such as the M62 or A57.
