A 20-year-old woman from Azerbaijan was allegedly lured to a cafe in Lahore, Pakistan, where she was drugged and gang raped throughout the night before being abandoned near an airport. The woman, identified in the police report as Diana, had arrived in Lahore just days before the alleged incident.
According to police, the woman was approached by two women who took her to a cafe, where three men were already waiting. After spending time there, the group allegedly took her to a flat, where she was given a drink containing an intoxicating substance before three men allegedly raped her.
Investigation and arrests
Her ordeal is alleged to have continued throughout the night before she was taken from the property and left near an airport. The attackers then allegedly fled with two of her mobile phones, including an iPhone. The woman later made a complaint, and an investigation was launched.
Police have identified suspects they believe were involved and are working to track them down. Officers have also recovered a vehicle allegedly used during the incident and took it to Defence C police station in Lahore as part of their investigation.
Police response
Three people have been detained for questioning, while raids have been carried out in the hunt for the alleged attackers. Special police teams were formed to investigate the case, with Cantt Investigation Superintendent of Police Asim Iftikhar heading efforts to find the suspects.
Lahore investigation deputy inspector general Syed Zeeshan Raza said officers were looking at all aspects of the case and promised the investigation would be carried out according to the law. He said: "I am personally and continuously monitoring progress in the investigation."
The woman has undergone a medical examination following the alleged attack, with police awaiting further details from the medical report.
