Two men have died after falling into an industrial silage tank at a farm in Cheshire. The incident occurred on Wednesday August 26 at around 12.20pm, when police were called to a farm on Cann Lane in Aston by Budworth.
Emergency Response and Fatalities
Cheshire Constabulary said that police, fire and ambulance services attended the scene. On arrival, they found that two men had fallen into an industrial slurry tank. A silage tank is used to store fermented animal feed.
The men, aged 72 and 42, were rescued from the tank by emergency services. Despite the best efforts of all those involved, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Family Notification
Next of kin have been informed, and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The family have requested that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.
North West Ambulance Service said various ambulance resources had been sent to the incident. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the workplace safety regulator, said its inspectors visited the farm on Wednesday and it was liaising with Cheshire Police.
Road Closure
Cann Lane was closed while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
