Two individuals have been arrested following a severe collision on the A1 in Northumberland that left a teenager in critical condition. The three-vehicle crash occurred on Wednesday, June 3, just after 4pm on the southbound carriageway between Stannington and Blagdon.
Details of the Crash
The collision involved a blue BMW 320 M, a red Seat Leon, and a white IVECO heavy goods vehicle. Emergency services, including police, the North East Ambulance Service, and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene. The teenage boy, who was in the BMW, sustained life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized 12 days after the incident.
Two men and a woman also suffered minor injuries. An investigation was launched by Northumbria Police, leading to two arrests.
Arrests Made
The driver of the Seat, a 19-year-old man, and the driver of the BMW, a 40-year-old man, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Both have been released under investigation pending further inquiries.
