A train journey through Plymouth was plunged into chaos after a man reportedly unleashed a furious outburst and threatened to 'kill everybody' after missing his stop. The incident occurred around 4pm on Tuesday, July 14, on a train from Paddington to Penzance.
Witness Describes Terrifying Ordeal
A witness stated that the man began screaming and threatening to punch and kill everyone on the train if it did not stop. The witness described the man as 'insane' and said he had never seen anyone so deranged. The man reportedly headbutted a passenger who intervened, causing a significant injury and bruising to the eye.
The 'hero' passenger, along with three others, managed to detain the man in the vestibule between carriages until the train reached Plymouth station. The witness said the man continued to shout threats and even attempted to bite one of the people holding him.
Passengers and Staff Left in Tears
The witness reported that the entire carriage was shaken, with several passengers and staff members left in tears. Visibly upset train staff were seen hugging one another after the violence. When the train arrived at Plymouth, police were waiting on the platform and arrested the man immediately, according to the witness.
Despite the man claiming to have mental health issues during the arrest, the witness emphasized that his behavior was predatory and violent, stating, 'If that man didn't step in, he would have hurt people. He was a hero.'
A spokesperson for British Transport Police confirmed that the man involved was not arrested, though further details were not provided.
