The RSPCA posted on social media: 'Today's cat of the day. This kitten has been dumped in a dustbin in a shed behind one of the restaurants in Uppermill. It's wet through, exhausted, petrified and hungry. Sometimes there are just no words.'

They added: 'Tomorrow, once it has settled down, we will clean it up, flea and worm it and then in a couple of days, get it full vet checked. Everything can be done a little bit at a time.'

Public Reaction

Social media users expressed outrage and sympathy. One commented: 'No words for the heartless creature who dumped it in a bin. Thank god it was found.' Another wrote: 'Poor dear little kitten. How can anyone be so wicked?'
