Amber Lloyd, a nine-year-old girl from Ormskirk who was born with a severe brain injury, has died. Amber was deprived of oxygen for 25 minutes at birth, leading to a severe case of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), a brain injury caused by lack of oxygen and restricted blood flow to the brain that primarily affects newborns around the time of birth.
Family Campaign and Support
Amber's family raised money and awareness through a Facebook page called Amber's Entourage - The Amber Lloyd appeal, where they regularly shared updates on her condition. They also had an extension built at their home to provide Amber with a downstairs bedroom and wet room.
Death and Inquest
Amber died at her home on School Lane in Ormskirk on June 17, 2026. An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at Preston Coroners' Court on July 2, 2026. The court heard that Amber was identified by her mum. Senior Coroner Chris Long stated: "The circumstances reported to me indicate that the death resulted from an injury at birth. In the circumstances I will open an inquest into the death of Amber with the case to be next heard on November 5."
