Mum can't understand 'too northern' delivery driver in awkward moment

Jen Stead, a 45-year-old health educator from Southport, Lancashire, experienced an embarrassing moment when she couldn't understand a delivery driver's question five times because his accent was 'too Northern'. The incident, captured on her Ring doorbell camera on June 11, shows the driver asking 'house or garage' to determine where to leave a packaged gazebo.

The awkward exchange

The footage reveals Jen looking confused as the driver repeats the three-word question three times. She eventually says, 'I don't know what you're saying, sorry.' At this point, the driver appears to lose his cool, lunging forward and barking the question again while gesturing toward the house and garage. Jen quickly apologises, saying, 'Sorry, I couldn't understand you,' as the driver steps back to his trolley.

Viral reaction

The video has garnered nearly one million views on TikTok, sparking debate over whether the driver's reaction was justified or rude. Jen, a mum of one, does not blame the courier, saying she and her husband Chris Stead, 48, 'couldn't stop laughing' when they watched the footage. She explained: 'At first I couldn't really hear him but then when he started the sentence with 'ouse' it completely threw me. I felt quite embarrassed at the end because the poor guy was trying to say something and it was going completely over my head.'

Aftermath and comments

After the miscommunication, the driver placed the parcels in the garage and told Jen not to worry when she apologised again. She says she would happily use the courier service again. Chris posted the video on TikTok with the caption: 'My wife makes me laugh so much. Thank the lord for Ring doorbells.' Social media users were divided: one commented, 'That was a bit rude. Someone got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning! It's a house btw.' Another said, 'He was so done with his job that day.' A third joked, 'Ausorgaridge - Is that in Germany?' However, one user defended the driver: 'How would you like to repeat yourself five times? His reaction was valid.' The logistics company has been contacted for comment.
